Former FIU Safety Johnathan Cyprien Officially Retires From NFL

On March 7, safety Johnathan Cyprien signed a one-day contract to officially retire as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cyprien spent eight years in the NFL, mainly with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but also with the Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers. 

Before the NFL, Cyprien was a key piece in the FIU defense for four years (2009-2012).

Through Cyprien's four years at FIU, he had 365 total tackles, 152 assisted tackles, 213 solo tackles and seven interceptions.

Cyprien's best season came in 2010 when he had 113 total tackles, 63 solo tackles and one interceptions. In his final season with the Panthers, he had four interceptions. The Panthers went 7-6, with their seventh win being a  win against Toledo in the Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl.

Through his eight seasons in the NFL, Cyprien had 515 total tackles, 381 solo tackles, 324 assisted tackles and two interceptions. Cyprien also was a part of the Tennessee Titans 2017 playoff run, which came to a close in the AFC Championship.

Cyprien last appeared in an NFL game in 2020 with San Francisco. He then returne to FIU to be a speaker, call games on ESPN+ and help promote the school. Most notably, Cyprien is a big advocate for Inside the Cage, FIU's main NIL program.
