While Jacksonville State just joined Conference USA in 2023, the Gamecocks had a fairly long history of success at the FCS level. One of their better players from that era has a new home in the NFL.

The Miami Dolphins announced Wednesday the signing of 29-year-old former Jax State defensive back Siran Neal.

Neal spent 2015-2017 with Jacksonville State after transferring from LSU. A native of Dothan, Alabama, Neal was an All-Ohio Valley Conference Selection with the Gamecocks in both 2016 and 2017. He played significant time at both safety and linebacker in those seasons.

After college, Neal was a fifth-round selection by the Buffalo Bills in 2018. He spent five seasons in Buffalo before being released earlier this month. Neal was mostly a reserve for the Bills, starting one game during his tenure. He had 13 tackles in 2023.

Miami also signed former Buffalo starting safety Jordan Poyer earlier this month, meaning the two will be reunited in Dolphins uniforms.
