Transfer Portal: Caden Veltkamp Will Return To Western Kentucky
Another notable G5 quarterback is officially off the transfer market.
Western Kentucky rising redshirt sophomore Caden Veltkamp announced on his Twitter/X account on Wednesday afternoon that he will return to WKU for the 2024 season. Veltkamp has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Veltkamp released a statement with the words "I'm back" through the Red Towel Trust, the official NIL Collective of Western Kentucky University.
Veltkamp entered the portal in late November, but was still allowed to play for Western Kentucky against Old Dominion in the Famous Toastery Bowl this month. Veltkamp guided the Hilltoppers to a 38-35 win in overtime after WKU found themselves in a 28-0 hole in the second quarter.
Veltkamp finished that game with 40 completions on 52 attempts for 383 yards with five touchdown passes and one interception. Veltkamp also rushed for 53 yards on 19 carries.
With the departure of fellow WKU quarterback Austin Reed for the NFL, Veltkamp will likely be a strong candidate to be WKU's full-time starter in 2024.
Veltkamp is a native of Bowling Green, Kentucky and a product of South Warren High School, roughly 15 minutes from WKU's campus. The 6'6" 235 pounder is also the son of WKU's strength coach Jason Veltkamp.
