College Football Playoff: Committee Says Toledo, SMU, Others Still Alive For New Years Six
Heading into conference championship weekend, the most likely scenario remains Tulane winning their second consecutive AAC championship and going back to the New Years Six. However, some see Liberty as a legitimate contender, just two spots behind the Green Wave in the College Football Playoff rankings, to take the Group of Five's bid in those contests.
There are ten teams from the G5 playing in a conference championship game this weekend. When asked on Tuesday night, CFP Selection Committee Chair Boo Corrigan made it known that he believes the majority of that group are still alive in the hunt for that one New Years Six spot.
Is there a path for SMU or any of the other potential Group of Five champions to get that New Year's Six bid?
Corrigan: "Conference championships matter, so yes is the answer as we look at that and look at all the teams that are in the conference championships, whether it's Tulane, SMU, Liberty, New Mexico State. You've got Toledo and Miami of Ohio. As we're looking at it, our goal again is to try and find the best Group of Five team."
