3 Best Plays We Saw In The G5 In Week 8
The eighth full week of the college football season gave us some fantastic plays and very memorable finishes.
As more and more teams cross that threshold of postseason eligibility, the rewards are starting to come into view. It's making for some entertaining football in the Group of Five.
Camryn Edwards' Helmet Catch
Even in a losing effort, UConn running back Camryn Edwards turned in an exceptional performance. Edwards carried the ball 22 times for 149 yards and a rushing touchdown. Edwards was also an offensive threat in the passing game. Edwards caught four passes for 15 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown catch was one of the best in the country on Saturday.
UConn ran a play-action fake to short-yardage back/defensive lineman Jelani Stafford, allowing Ta'Quan Roberson to roll to his right and fire a pass towards Edwards. Edwards bobbled the catch initially, then trapped it against his helmet with one foot in the end zone to get the Huskies six points.

Toledo's Anthony Torres Hauls In A Touchdown
Toledo are doing more and more to prove they're a likely candidate to win the MAC title again this season. We saw another example of that towards the end of the first half of their latest win against Miami (OH). DeQuan Finn threw a 20-yard touchdown to tight end Anthony Torres. It was a perfect throw and a phenomenal catch to extend the lead.
Surprisingly, this was the 6'6" tight end's first touchdown reception of his college career, which is now in its fifth year. Torres has 12 catches this year for 196 yards this season in addition to the one touchdown.
UNLV's Game-Winning and Record-Breaking Kick
Homecoming could not have gone better for UNLV. In year one under Barry Odom, the Rebels have clinched bowl eligibility after winning for the sixth time this season. It's been ten years since UNLV last played a postseason game.
UNLV kicker Jose Pizano, a former JUCO soccer player who switched to football, tied the program's record for field goals in a single game with six. Pizano hit a 28-yard field goal to win the game 25-23, as time expired.
The celebration was well-earned in Vegas on Saturday.
