Boise State Interim Head Coach Spencer Danielson is only the second interim head coach in FBS history to take his team to a conference championship game. After two straight wins in the position following the firing of Andy Avalos, Danielson will lead 7-5 Boise State against title hosts UNLV on Saturday.

Since the Broncos played their first game with Danielson at the helm, no Boise State players have declared for the transfer portal. Obviously, winning helps that situation. However, Danielson also notes that a combination of proactivity from the coaching staff and trust in him from the players is helping to keep a group with several young pieces together.

"At the end of the day, how we take care of and treat our players, motivate them, obviously hold them to a high standard," Danielson said Tuesday of what helps the Bronco staff keep players focused. "When you hold somebody to a high standard, if they know they're developing and becoming the best version of themself, they want to show up every day. Although it's hard, they know it's helping them. So they're going to stay put, they're going to do it, and they're going to do it together."

Danielson appeared confident that players seeing what they're capable of under this staff these last few weeks and in their final two games will also help make the case for longer stays in Boise.

"They're seeing themselves get better. They're seeing themselves make more plays on the field. They're seeing themselves grow not only as a football player, but as a man. So they want to be a part of that."

Danielson formally interviewed to be the Broncos' next permanent head coach earlier this week.

The Mountain West Championship will kick off on Saturday, December 2, at 3 PM ET on FOX.
