College Football Playoff Rankings: Boo Corrigan Explains Air Force & Tulane Rankings
On Tuesday evening, the College Football Playoff selection committee released their first Top 25 of the season. Two G5 teams were included in the rankings: the Tulane Green Wave at #24 and the Air Force Falcons at #25.
In both the AP Top 25 and the AFCA Coaches Poll, 8-0 Air Force are ranked above 7-1 Tulane. While Air Force are ranked above Tulane in the other polls, Tulane's only loss this season has been to Ole Miss, who were ranked at #10 in Tuesday's CFP rankings.
G5 Football Daily asked the CFP Selection Committee Chair Boo Corrigan about the committee's consideration of those two inclusions. Corrigan began by assuring that they took the ranking of the two teams seriously.
"We understand that it matters, and the amount of time that we spend 5 through 25, if you will, is an enormous amount of time to make sure that we get this right."

Corrigan went on to explain the specific aspects of both G5 inclusions that came up in the committee's conversations.
"From a Tulane standpoint, to go on the road and beat Memphis really stood out to the committee. Michael Pratt, their quarterback, did not play against Ole Miss, even though it was a 17-point game. That was a factor there. From an Air Force standpoint, Coach Calhoun has really done a great job leading the nation in rushing. Their defense has played really well. A little bit came down to their big win over Wyoming and kind of that overall strength of schedule as you look at it, and those are the reasons that we had Tulane at 24 and Air Force at 25."
College Football Playoff rankings will be released every Tuesday for the remainder of the regular season. The highest-ranked team from the Group of Five at the end of the regular season will earn a spot in a New Year's Six bowl game.
