Honolulu’s St. Louis High School has produced college football greats like Marcus Mariota, Tua Tagovailoa, Jeremiah Masoli, and more over the last thirty years or so. Their most recent state title came in 2019, and expectations for the Crusaders are high. Head coach Ron Lee stepped down at the end of the 2023 season.

On Friday, Tupu Alualu was announced as the program’s new head coach. Alualu has been an active member of the Honolulu coaching community for the better part of the last two decades. That includes 14 years as an assistant at St. Louis.

Alaualu graduated from St. Louis High School, where he was a standout running back. As a player, Alualu began his college career at Oregon, but transferred to Hawaii for his final three years of eligibility. From 1993 to 1995, Alualu played fullback for the Rainbow Warriors, scoring ten touchdowns and rushing for 1466 yards. Alualu briefly played in the Canadian Football League after college.

Saint Louis will enter the 2024 season seeking their eighth Hawaii state championship since 1999.
