Recruiting: UNLV Target QB Toa Faavae Talks College Options
About 550 miles from Las Vegas sits Concord, California. The Oakland suburb may be the home of one of the next signal callers of the UNLV football team.
2025 recruit and De La Salle High School quarterback Toa Faavae may be fairly new to the starting QB role after playing some running back last season, but he's already attracting Division I attention.
Faave is listed at 6'1" and 185 pounds and the #149 recruit in the state of California.
Over this past summer Faave attended at high school camps for Texas A&M , Cal, San Jose State , and Sacramento State. UNLV is currently the only Division I offer on his list, though it isn't the only school with interest.
FanNation Recruiting Analyst Matt Solorio caught up with Faavae recently game to get a sense of how he's currently approaching his college decision.
Q: What's your main focus at camps?
A: "Just trying to soak up all the information from the coaches, try to get better from a lot of different point of views and put it together at the end of the camp. Also trying to get my name out there."
Q: So how did the UNLV offer come about?
A: "(Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach) Coach Morian actually came to the school and watched me throw during spring ball. I was running track at the time, and Coach Alumbbaugh pulled me aside and said I want you to throw today, the UNLV coach is coming to see you. I guess he saw what he liked and offered me."
"I've visited there (UNLV) two years ago when it was their first year playing in the Raiders' stadium".
"Right now I'm talking to Coach Morian, he's asking me when I can come out to the games."
Q: Any other schools talking to you?
A: "I'm mostly focused on the season right now, but yeah."
Q: Are you focused on Power 5?
A: "I would say I'm leaning towards more really wanting to go to the Power Five. School is always first for me though, but football is definitely my go-to of getting me into college and paying for college."
Q: Any official visit planned?
A: "Haven't planned anything yet for an official."
Q: Are you talking to other schools?
A: "Cal, UC Davis, Texas A&M, San José State and Fresno State."
Q: A dream school in mind?
A: "I'm really just taking it as it comes, just feeling it out right now."
