Thamel reported on Wednesday that recently fired New Mexico head coach Danny Gonzales will be joining Brennan's staff as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach.

Gonzales was fired at New Mexico following the conclusion of the 2023 season. In four seasons leading the Lobos, Gonzales was 11-32. New Mexico hired Bronco Mendenhall to replace Gonzales in December.

Brennan was hired on January 16 to replace Jedd Fisch, who resigned to take the head coach position at Washington.

The role is something of a return to his roots for Gonzales. Gonzales was New Mexico's punter, as well as a defensive back, from 1994 ton 1998. One of his primary responsibilities as an assistant at New Mexico from 1999 to 2008 was coaching kickers, punters, and long snappers. Gonzales developed two All-American kickers (James Aho and John Sullivan) during that period at UNM.

Arizona has not announced the hiring of Gonzales as of Wednesday afternoon.
