On that list are three coaches from the Group of Five: Ken Wilson of Nevada, Butch Jones of Arkansas State, and Danny Gonzales of New Mexico.
Wilson's Nevada Wolf Pack have started the season 2-6. They lost their first six games of the season, but are currently on a two-game winning streak after beating San Diego State and New Mexico. Nevada also lost their final ten games of the 2022 season.
Gonzales and New Mexico are 3-5 to start the season. Gonzales is in his fourth season with the Lobos, amassing a 10-29 record. He has yet to win more than three games in a season with New Mexico.
Jones has Arkansas State off to a 4-4 start in 2023. Now in his third season with the program, Jones' four wins are the most he has achieved in a season with the Red Wolves. Jones is 9-23 to date in Jonesboro. A bowl berth would be their first since 2019.
