Fresno State are undefeated and ranked in the top 25. Air Force are also undefeated and running the ball better than just about anybody in the country. The Mountain West's on-field product is a lot of fun at the moment.

Both Jeff Tedford and Troy Calhoun could be serious candidates for postseason coaching awards as well. Tedford's impact on the program has been clear in their record since he returned for his second tenure and Calhoun has returned the Falcons to the spot of top service academy team after winning the Commander In Chief's trophy.

Let's be honest here, these two teams might just be the G5's two most legitimate contenders for the New Year's Six.

Sadly, the Bulldogs and the Falcons aren't scheduled to meet one another in the regular season. Does that mean they're destined to meet in the league championship game?

Meanwhile, off the field, the conference could be something of a College Football trail blazer in a unique merger with the remaining Pac-12 schools that would see a relegation model take shape, reminiscent of European soccer. To break it all down, Joe Londergan talks with Jeremy Mauss. Mauss is the Managing Editor of Mountain West Wire, dedicated to covering the league on behalf of USA today.
