3 G5 Players Named First-Team All-Americans By FWAA For 2023

The Football Writers Association of America released their All-America teams on Monday morning. 

Just three players from the Group of Five were selected for the first team, all on special teams. 

K Jose Pizano, UNLV - Senior- Lehi, Utah

KR Jayden Harrison, Marshall - Junior - Antioch, Tenn.

PR LaJohntay Wester, Florida Atlantic - Junior - Palmetto, Fla.

Noted in the FWAA's press release, "UNLV kicker Jose Pizano is the Rebels’ first All-American since 1998. Marshall kick returner Jayden Harrison is the Herd’s first first team All-American since 2011 and its first on special teams. Florida Atlantic punt returner LaJohntay Wester is only the Owls’ second All-American."

Pizano was also a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, won by another G5 kicker in Graham Nicholson. Wester was named the AAC Special Teams Player of the Year for 2023. Harrison was also named a Walter Camp All-American on Monday, making him Marshall's first since Randy Moss in 1997.
