G5 Names To Watch In The Spring Transfer Window
The Spring transfer window is set to open on April 16 and close again on April 30. When that happens, college football teams around the country will have the opportunity to officially add new players and address needs that presented themselves during spring practice. Of course, players looking to make a move may end up announcing a commitment to to a new school prior to that.
In the next several weeks, keep an eye on these former Group of Five players who could be strong additions in that April window.
Jordan McCloud - QB - Previous: James Madison, Arizona, South Florida
One of those players that was expected to be scooped up quickly, McCloud appears to be taking his time making a decision. McCloud had 40 total touchdowns with 3,413 passing yards in 2023. McCloud's efforts earned him the Sun Belt's Player of the Year award in 2023. A dual-threat with decent size, McCloud proved he's a consistent starter-caliber QB with his performance at JMU last season after a couple earlier stops. His name has been linked to a few notable destinations, but he has not announced an official commitment.
Marquez Cooper - RB - Previous: Ball State, Kent State
Cooper was a second-team All-MAC selection in 2023, rushing for 1043 yards and four touchdowns for the Cardinals. At Kent State, the Maryland native was a first-team All-MAC selection in 2022 and second-team in 2021. He ranks sixth in Kent State program history with 2,813 total rushing yards as a Golden Flash.
Rashad Amos - RB - Previous: Miami (OH), South Carolina
Amos' name has been linked to a few different Power Five schools, but he hasn't announced a commitment. Amos spent three seasons at South Carolina before transferring to Miami in 2023, but was used sparingly in Columbia. Helping the RedHawks to a MAC title this past season, Amos carried 210 times for 1075 yards with 13 touchdowns.
Tre'Shon Devones - CB - Previous: Rice
Devones enjoyed the best season of his college career in 2023. Devones started 11 games for the Owls this past season, picking up two interceptions with ten pass breakups. Devones also picked up 45 total tackles, including their bowl game loss to Texas State. The grad transfer out of Duncanville, Texas earned a scholarship after beginning his career at Rice in 2019 as a walk-on.
JaQues Evans - LB - Previous: Western Kentucky
In 41 games over four seasons at WKU, Evans totaled 182 tackles with 12 sacks, 19 TFLs, and five fumble recoveries. He was an All-CUSA First Team selection in 2022. Evans was hampered by injury in 2023, only appearing in six games. The Georgia native was the 2023 Preseason CUSA Defensive Player of the Year. A 6'2", 250-pounder with strong pass rush ability, he could be decent fit in most systems, if he stays healthy.
