Louisiana Football Hires Former Buffalo Bills Assistant Coach Jim Salgado

A veteran defensive coach is headed to the Sun Belt Conference.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported that former Washington Commanders and Buffalo Bills assistant coach will join Michael Desormeaux's staff at the University of Louisiana as the team's new defensive coordinator.

Salgado signed with the Washington Commanders this offseason after spending 2023 with the Michigan State Spartans. He was Mel Tucker/Harlon Barnett's cornerbacks coach this past season. Salgado spent 2017 to 2022 with the Buffalo Bills He spent each of those seasons as a defensive backs coach.

Salgado was last a defensive coordinator in the Ivy League with Princeton from 2013 to 2016. He also had a four-year stint as an assistant with Syracuse included in his 20+ years in the college ranks.

Former Cajuns' defensive coordinator LaMar Morgan is expected to be announced as the new defensive backs coach at Michigan in the coming days.
