As GJ Kinne continues his revamp of the Texas State football program, their mantra has been #TakeBackTexas. However, their newest piece doesn't come from the Lone Star State.

Three-star athlete Derrick Osmond out of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma originally committed to Tulsa back in August. However, one day after announcing he would decommit from the Golden Hurricane, Osmond announced on social media his intention to sign with the Texas State Bobcats.

Osmond is the 15th commit in the class of 2024 for Texas State. He is the only commit in that Texas State class so far not from the state of Texas.

Osmond recently visited Texas State for their 2023 home opener where the Bobcats defeated Jackson State 77-34. The Bobcats are 2-1 to start the season.

On his decommitment from Tulsa, Osmond had the following to say via X (formerly Twitter):

"The relationships that I have developed with this staff is what made this one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make. TU has and always will be a part of my life. After much thought and prayer regarding the career path that I wish to pursue, I have come to the conclusion that de-committing from TU is what is best for me and my future."

Per 247 Sports, Osmond is listed as the #18 recruit in the state of Oklahoma for the class of 2024. This is due to his composite rating of 0.85. Playing mostly tight end, he is listed as 6'6" and 235 pounds. Osmond also plays defensive end for Broken Arrow High School.

In addition to Texas State and Tulsa, Osmond holds offers from Kansas, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami (OH), and Sam Houston State. He will have his first opportunity to sign his NLI on Early Signing Day, December 20, 2023.
