Brandon Rembert Promotes Major League Baseball Careers For HBCU Student-Athletes

Alcorn State alumnus Brandon Rembert is inspiring HBCU students and athletes to consider a career within Major League Baseball.

HOUSTON - Brandon Rembert inspires HBCU students and athletes to seek a career in Major League Baseball through his compelling story of determination and tenacity. During his senior year playing as an outfielder for the Alcorn Braves, an unfortunate hamstring injury threatened to derail his aspirations of playing Major League Baseball. However, he refused to give up on his dream. He knew his MLB story wasn't over as he walked out of Foster Baseball Field at McGowan Stadium for the last time on Senior Day. He remembered meeting someone from the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and decided to reach out to them for another chance at his dream.

Later, a representative from the Pirates contacted him, providing him with the chance he had been waiting for. After a series of interviews, Brandon found himself in the Dominican Republic, where he would assist the Pirates' local operations manager, players, and their families. He currently holds the position of assistant operations analyst and will begin working in scouting for the team in 2024.

Through hard work, dedication, and training, Brandon Rembert is on his way to joining the ranks as a scout within the Pirates organization. Major League Baseball has many opportunities for students and student-athletes within the league, and he wanted to share his experience and knowledge with HBCU Legends.

🌟 Emphasizing Diversity in Baseball Scouting: Brandon emphasized the need for increased exposure and opportunities for African American and HBCU baseball players. The progress in diversity in scouting is acknowledged, yet the call for further improvement and visibility remains crucial for fostering talent and success in the industry.

🤝 Networking and Pursuing Career Opportunities: Networking was pivotal in Brandon's entry into the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. His story underlines the significance of building relationships, taking initiative, and proactively pursuing career opportunities within the sports industry.

KEY QUOTES

Finding Opportunities in Professional Baseball: "I mean, there's a lot of opportunities, like internships and, like, fellowships and things like that and programs to get people within the game. It is just like you must be able to do the digging and do the research."

— Brandon Rembert

Gaining Perspective from the Bench: "Honestly, just being able to see it see the game for from, like, a different lens. You know? I was I was always at the practices and and the games and things like that, you know, even though I was in the dugout, but I feel like just evaluating players from the bench. You know? You usually, you know, I'm I'm playing in a game, but just having that different perspective, like picking up on certain things that I wouldn't see while I'm playing. Things like that, I I feel like helped me for sure because now I'm sitting in the stands."

— Brandon Rembert

The Impact of Mentorship: "I didn't know who he was when I came, with the organization, but he and he went out his way and then introduced himself to me and just kind of, Like, took me under his wing trying to show me the ropes and and just trying to grow me as as not only an individual, but as a professional as well."
