MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills congratulated Howard University on celebrating 50 years of women's basketball at the storied HBCU institution.

MEAC Commissioner Sonja Stills congratulated Howard University on celebrating 50 years of women's basketball at the storied HBCU institution.

Throughout the past five decades, Howard University's women's basketball team, the Bison, has achieved incredible success, clinching 9 MEAC regular season titles and 11 tournament titles.

Stills proudly shined a light on the pioneers of women's basketball at Howard, such as Robin Duncan-Chisholm, Andrea Gardner-Williams, and Saadia Doyle - individuals who have left an indelible mark on the sport.

"As commissioner of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, it brings me joy to congratulate Howard University for celebrating 50 years of women's basketball. The run of success started in 1982 when Howard, under legendary coach Sonya Tyler, represented the conference in its first NCAA tournament appearance.

Over the past five decades, the Bison have won 9 MEAC regular season titles and 11 tournament titles. We shine a light on women's basketball pioneers like Robin Duncan-Chisholm, the 1st 1,000-point scorer and all-conference player in Howard's history.

Andrea Gardner-Williams, who led the nation in rebounding and was the 27th pick of the 2022 WNBA draft by the Utah Stars. And Saadia Doyle, the all-time leading scorer in MEAC history and an MEAC and Howard Hall of Famer.

On behalf of the MEAC nation, it is my honor to congratulate the Howard University's basketball program on achieving 50 years of game changing memories. We cannot wait to see you at the 2024 MEAC basketball tournament, March 13th through 16th, at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia."

Sonja Stills - MEAC Commissioner

Commissioner Stills gave a heartfelt congratulations and recognition of Howard University's basketball program, which serves as a testament to the rich history and impactful contributions of the MEAC community.
