BREAKING: Grambling State To Introduce Mickey Joseph As Head Football Coach

Grambling State University will introduce Mickey Joseph as its new head football coach, per source.

NEW ORLEANS - Grambling State University will introduce Mickey Joseph as its new head football coach, according to a source. Dr. Trayvean Scott, the Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, will hold a press conference on Monday, December 18 at 10:00 AM to announce the new hire.

Update, 6:45 PM CT:  The offensive coordinator position may have a new candidate being considered.

Mickey Joseph's offensive coordinator will reportedly be Eric Dooley.   Dooley brought Prairie View A&M and Southern University to the SWAC Football Championship games in consecutive seasons.   He was dismissed as head coach of the Jaguars before this year's Bayou Classic.

Joseph was also a candidate for the Texas Southern and Southern University positions.

Mickey Joseph is the brother of Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who was in Houston for the Denver-Houston game on Sunday. Joseph was the former interim head coach for the Nebraska Cornhuskers - also an alumnus. He was known as a New Orleans high school legend from Archbishop Shaw High School, setting numerous Louisiana high school records, and was a human highlight reel. A New Orleans TV station produced a video tribute to him with the music "Hey Mickey" by Toni Basil in the background.

Mickey Joseph has previous HBCU coaching experience as a position and assistant head coach at Grambling State, Alcorn State, and Langston University.

The aspiring head coach was arrested and charged with domestic assault and strangulation for an incident with his wife on Nov. 30, 2022. Nebraska officials later dropped the charges.

Grambling terminated Hue Jackson as the program's head coach shortly after the 50th Annual Bayou Classic, where the Tigers lost to the Jaguars, 27-22.

HBCU Plus will stream the press conference.
