Bubba McDowell Replaces Willie Simmons As HBCU Legacy Bowl Head Coach

Prairie View A&M head coach will replace Willie Simmons as the 2024 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl head coach.

HOUSTON - The 2024 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl announced that Coach Bubba McDowell will join Coach Chennis Berry as a head coach on Team Robinson, replacing Coach Willie Simmons.

"It's a great honor to be selected to replace Coach Simmons, who won the SWAC," McDowell told HBCU Legends.  "However, to have my staff there and get to see the game from a bigger level is good for us.  Also, to be able to interact with NFL teams, scouts, and teach the young men what we know is great."

Coach McDowell will have five coaches from Prairie View at the annual all-star game: Defensive coordinator, running backs, offensive line, linebackers, and secondary coaches.

Howard's Larry Scott and Virginia Union's Dr. Alvin Parker will lead Team Gaither as planned.

"You have 32 teams that come there to watch," Coach Berry told HBCU Legends. "You got eyes on you every day. So everything, how you dress, how you speak, how you interact, all those life lessons that I try to instill in my program...I was pouring that into those guys that I only knew for a week. And they understood that because every day is an interview. What a great experience. A first-class event."

The annual HBCU Legacy Bowl has invited 100 players from HBCUs to participate in this season's contest, which will take place in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The game is scheduled at Tulane University's Yulman Stadium on February 24th, 2024. The kickoff time is 3 PM CT, and the NFL Network will broadcast the game live.
