Bubba McDowell's Mega Camp Featuring Coach Deion Sanders, HBCU, and Power 5 Coaches
HOUSTON — This Thursday, Bubba McDowell is all set to kick off the PVAMU Mega Camp with an exciting lineup of skilled coaches from HBCUs and Power 5 programs. The event promises to be a great experience for the aspiring football players. "We have good coaches coming to the camp," Coach McDowell told HBCU Legends. "These kids are going to have a chance to perform in front of a lot of good coaches and schools."
Confirmations from Coach Prime — Deion Sanders — of Colorado University, along with Willie Simmons (FAMU), Eddie Robinson Jr. (Alabama State), T.C. Taylor (Jackson State), Hue Jackson (Grambling State), Clarence McKinney (Texas Southern), Eddie George (Tennessee State), Fred McNair (Alcorn State), Dawson Odums (Norfolk State), and former head coach Broderick Fobbs plan to be in attendance. Several other programs, GA Tech, ULM, Sam Houston, Elon, and many others, will have representatives onsite.
"We've had the Mega Camp here before with up to 600 to 700 kids attended," Coach McDowell mentioned. "We said, let's do it again. We called Coach Flea Harrell, who is an assistant coach with Coach Sanders at Colorado. We started together at Texas Southern. We got a call back from Coach Prime and Coach Flea, agreeing to join the camp. They pumped it up on Twitter and the internet in Colorado. It grew like wildfire. Kids started signing up. Not only Coach Prime will be here, but Georgia Tech, all of the SWAC schools, and Coach Odums of Norfolk State will be here. So these kids will get a load of great training from everyone."
Coach McDowell noted, "We start registration at 2:30, and then they would go out, get stress tested, and work out. Then four o'clock to six, that's the big boys on the lines. The skill guys come in and go from six to eight. Offensive and defensive linemen will register and kick off the event with their weight room training at 2:30 PM CT. The skill players will check in at 4:30 PM CT.
The camp is for football players in grades 9 to 12, with a cost of $45.00 and registration ending at noon CT on Wed., May 31. The student-athletes will participate in position drills, one-on-one competitions, and field testing with head and assistant coaches from HBCU, Division I, and Division II football programs.
