Fred McNair Hired As An Offensive Assistant On The Southern University Jaguars Coaching Staff

The former head football coach of Alcorn State has been hired as an offensive assistant on the Southern University Jaguars coaching staff.

Southern University, led by first-year head football coach Terrence Graves, finalized its coaching staff for the 2024 season by adding offensive mastermind Fred McNair as the tight ends coach.

McNair, the former longtime head football coach of Alcorn State, will handle the duties alongside notable offensive minds for Coach Graves. Mark Frederick joined the staff as the offensive coordinator and running backs coach, while Willie Totten was retained as the quarterbacks coach.

Coach McNair was a top contender for the head football coach position at Texas Southern University. However, the Tigers ultimately selected Cris Dishman as their new coach. After turning down the Braves' contract extension offer, Coach McNair lost his job at Alcorn State.

Graves remarked, "I am blessed and fortunate to add coaches Moore, McNair, and Todd to our football coaching staff. Our staff consists of coaches with invaluable knowledge and experience, that's necessary for the growth, and development of our student-athletes."

The Jags kick off their spring football on Monday, March 18, in Baton Rouge, LA.
