The 2023 Denny's Orange Blossom Classic executive director Kendra Bulluck-Major has forged a powerful HBCU sports event by pulling from her past and leveraging the support of sponsors. She spoke with HBCU Legends to share her insights and experiences surrounding this iconic event. From the exclusive seating options to complimentary food and beverage service, Kendra discusses how the Orange Blossom Classic provides a top-notch fan experience for HBCUs.

"I think what makes our program unique is that we not only allow businesses to participate in events like tailgates or fan fests, but we also provide contracting opportunities, such as dropping porta potties at the parade," Bulluck-Major told HBCU Legends. "We ensure that businesses have all the necessary paperwork and then ask them to submit a quote from our business unit list."

But that's not all - we also explore the impact of the Denny's Orange Blossom Classic on local businesses and the community. With major corporate sponsors, the event is a platform to showcase brands and promote diversity and inclusion. Kendra highlights the efforts to support students through scholarships and the importance of financial assistance for those who excel beyond just grades.

"That's extremely important. You know, I don't think that I could do anything without some sort of community component. Right? it's about community... So the first year, well, to date, not counting, of course, this year, but to date in Miami Dade County, this game has given a $27,000,000 economic impact. That's big. And we know that over $6 million has specifically gone to minority-owned businesses."

Additionally, we'll touch upon the exciting press conference and the incredible coaches leading their teams into this epic showdown. Get ready to hear about the presenting sponsors, corporate supporters, and the marketing team's focus on highlighting all HBCUs. Bulluck-Major also speaks on the significance of community, giving back, and the Orange Blossom Classic's economic impact.

"The beautiful thing about this event is that if you are a corporate sponsor, you're aligning yourself with well-known and respected brands. And that says a lot."

The Orange Blossom Classic will have new team partners next season. There's a strong indication that the event may bring in a team outside the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Before considering 2024, Bulluck-Major focuses on today's kickoff at the 2023 Denny's Orange Blossom Classic between Jackson State and Florida A&M at 3 PM ET inside Hard Rock Stadium. ESPN will broadcast the event.
