Texas Southern University Schedules Another Interview With Brett Maxie For Head Coach Position

Texas Southern University has scheduled an in-person interview with Brett Maxie for the head football coach position.

HOUSTON - Texas Southern University has scheduled an in-person interview with Brett Maxie for the head football coach position, per source.  At the beginning of the Texas Southern Head Coach search process, Maxie had a video interview with the search committee.

Before the Christmas holiday break, several Texas Southern University's Board of Regents members paused hiring a new head football coach. The board members disagreed with the "top choice" recommended by Dr. Kevin Granger, VP of Athletics, and the search committee.

A recommendation was made by the TSU Board of Regents to include former Houston Texan Andre Johnson as a candidate, as new and old candidates were inserted into the interviewing process.  Also, the board members requested of Dr. Granger to include them in reviewing the candidates for the opening.

Brett Maxie, an alumnus of TSU, played 13 seasons in the NFL as a defensive back for the Saints, Panthers, Falcons, and 49ers.

Maxie, 61, has coaching experience in the collegiate and professional ranks. Last season, he coached with the USFL's Houston Gamblers (now Houston Roughnecks - UFL) as the team's defensive backs coach.
