Texas Southern Tigers Trounced By Rice Owls

The Texas Southern Tigers were trounced by the Rice Owls

The Rice Owls handily trounced the Texas Southern Tigers 62-7. TSU came closest on the very first play of the game. Also, that's when things went wrong for the Tigers. QB Jace Wilson tossed a lateral pass behind the receiver where Rice would pounce on the football. Rice began its offensive onslaught four plays later with a Daelen Alexander 1-yard plunge. Rice would take the lead 7-0 with 13:04 on the clock.

Owls quarterback JT Daniels tossed four touchdowns in the first half. A 35-yard strike to Braylen Walker, a 70-yard bomb to Kobie Campbell, a 1-yard lob to Jack Bradley, and a 36-yard laser to Luke McCaffrey to equal his career-best touchdown passes at four.

Quarterback Jace Wilson accounted for two fumbles for turnovers during the first half. The Tigers' offense was inept for most in the first quarter but found life with running back Ladarius Owens rushing seven times for 45 yards and Jace Wilson carrying six times for 27 yards.

Texas Southern came woke up when Wilson connected with Jyrin Johnson for a 15-yard touchdown reception with 4:17 left before intermission and cut the lead to 35-7. Rice added another touchdown at 1:12 in the 2nd quarter to walk into the locker room up 42-7.

Rice notched six touchdowns to TSU's one score in the first-half action.

The Owls kept overpowering the Tigers in the third quarter increasing the lead to 52-7 when Dalean Alexander motored into the endzone from the 1-yard line. Rice's Christian Francisco ended the night's scoring fest on a four-yard run to vanquish the Texas Southern, 59-7.
