Top-15 HBCU Quarterbacks Watchlist: Quarter Phi Back Awards | Week 2
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Bowie State's quarterback has taken the top spot on Week 2 of the 2023 HBCU Quarterbacks Watchlist for the Quarter Phi Back Award. Redshirt sophomore signal-caller Amir Jenkins hails from Calvert Hall High in Baltimore, MD. The Bulldogs' leader has passed for 597 yards and two touchdowns. In his most recent game, Jenkins threw for 350 yards in a 24-19 loss against Davenport University. At No. 2 is Jason Brown of the Jackson State Tigers who threw for 145 yards in their 27-14 win over Southern University.
The recipient of the BIP Memorial Trophy will be the top quarterback from an HBCU at the end of the year. The award is named in honor of Oliver Joyce, a former Florida A&M University quarterback who tragically lost his life in 1959 after sustaining an injury during practice.
