Texas Southern Women's Golf Team Triumphs For 2nd-Straight SWAC Title
The Texas Southern University Women's Golf Team clinched their third SWAC Women's Golf Championship, establishing a significant milestone in the program's history. First-year head coach Willie Shankle and the Texas Southern Women's Golf Team triumphed for their second-consecutive SWAC Women's Golf Title at the Refuge Golf Course in Flowood, Mississippi, on Wednesday, Apr. 20.
"I am extremely proud of the ladies. Even though they had some highs and lows, they came together when it mattered most," Coach Willie Shankle said.
Texas Southern triumphantly dominated its SWAC foes by a margin of 21 strokes. Second-year golfer Dili Sitanonth finished first on the leaderboard, scoring 228 (75-75-78) to earn the low medalist award in the competition. The Tigers' Ashlie Hobbs secured second place, just one stroke behind Sitanonth, with a golf card showing 229 (78-77-74).
Four TSU golfers received 2023 Women's Golf All-SWAC honors. First-team accolades went to Sadanun Sitanonh and Ashlie Hobbs. Second-team recognition went to Lyla Vaugh and Miniess Siame.
The victory is another feather in the cap of VP of Athletics, Dr. Kevin Granger who's teams continue to produce championship titles in 2023.
