SWAC Weekend Recap of Football [3-5 to 3-7]
The SWAC is proving to be a highly competitive conference this spring. Here is a quick recap of this weekend's action.
UAPB vs. Southern
The Golden Lions visited A.W. Mumford Stadium as underdogs and left victors. QB Skyler Perry shot holes in the Jaguars' defense with 223 yards and four touchdowns through the air. He added 58 yards on the ground with two touchdowns. Southern rallied in the fourth quarter but came up short against Arkansas Pine-Bluff, 30-33.

Alabama A&M vs. S. Carolina St.
SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Aqeel Glass of Alabama A&M, attempted to prove the voters were correct but at times looked shaky. Glass threw 15-for33 passing with 272 yards and four touchdowns in A&M's 31-7 rout of South Carolina State Bulldogs. His three interceptions did not hurt A&M on Saturday afternoon in the spring opener.
Bulldog's running back Kendral Flowers notched 115 yards on 13 rushing attempts. South Carolina State finally scored in the fourth quarter off of running back Alex James' 23-yard touchdown with 13:36 left in the contest. Prairie View vs. Texas Southern

Texas Southern vs. Prairie View A&M
Texas' interstate SWAC rivals Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M battled inside of Panther Stadium Saturday evening. Kristian Mosley's 4-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter sealed the deal for Prairie View. Kicker Richard Garcia booted a field goal and increased the Tigers' second-half lead to 19-13. The Panthers responded with a 12-play, 79-yard drive, with Mosley scoring the game's final touchdown. Prairie View defeated TSU, 20-19, in another SWAC nail biter of the day.
Notable Performances
- TSU: QB T. Peyton - 18/22 for 132 yards, 2 TD
- TSU: RB L. Owens - 16 rushes for 109 yards
JSU vs. Grambling
JSU Tigers are starting to believe in Coach Prime's #IBELIEVE mantra. Going into Eddie Robinson's stadium is daunting enough for the average football team. In Jackson State's case, losing 5-straight games to Grambling and claiming a win would be an incredible feat.
The thrilling battle of the Tigers of JSU vs. GSU was one for the history books. Deion Sanders' team led 33-28 and were close to expanding their lead on the one-yard line of Grambling. Unfortunately, an extra push from an offensive lineman aided to dislodge the football from running back Tyson Alexander, where Grambling recovered with 4:52 left in the game.
Quarterback Geremy Hickbottom led a drive down to JSU's goal line. With 1:04 remaining, running back, Keilon Elder was headed for the endzone for the go-ahead score. Jackson State's defender Miller charged-in and caused the fumble, and the Tigers' defense saved the day.
Notable performances
- JSU: RB Tyson Alexander - 17 rushes for 184 yards.
- Grambling: QB Geremy Hickbottom - 24/35 for 237 yards, 1 TD
