BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Liam McNeeley has been a top recruiting target for Indiana coach Mike Woodson and his staff for well over a year.

The five-star small forward has whittled his college list down to two, Indiana and Kansas, and he visited both campuses this in September.

As Indiana fans wait for McNeeley to announce his decision, here's a timeline of his notable performances for Montverde Academy and on the AAU circuit, as well as relevant offers, visits, college lists, predictions and more.

April 9, 2022: McNeeley receives a scholarship offer from Indiana. Coach Mike Woodson and staff join a long list of suitors from programs all over the country.

June 2, 2022: Entering his junior year, McNeeley announces his decision to transfer to Montverde Academy in Florida, a powerhouse basketball prep school that consistently produces NBA talent. McNeeley previously attended John Paul II High School in Plano, Texas, where he was an all-state honoree as a sophomore.

June 18th, 2022: McNeeley is one of 35 players in the high school classes 2023, 2024 and 2025 chosen to compete in the 2022 USA Basketball U17 Training Camp in Colorado Springs, Colo.

July 25, 2022: McNeeley scores 25 points with seven rebounds, five blocks, three steals and two assists as Drive Nation wins the Nike EYBL Peach Invitational. He shot 37% from three across eight games at Peach Jam on his way to being named PIT MVP, top underclassman and all-defense.

Sept. 23-25, 2022: McNeeley takes official visit to Indiana, alongside Montverde teammate Derik Queen.

Dec. 8, 2022: McNeeley leads Montverde with 21 points, including 5-for-9 3-point shooting and seven rebounds, in a 64-41 over Bishop Walsh in the Bob Kirk Invitational. McNeeley was named player of the game. 

Jan 9, 2023: Recruiting website On3 ranks McNeeley No. 10 in the nation in updated class of 2024 rankings.

Jan 18, 2023: Kansas coach Bill Self joins long list of programs to offer a scholarship to McNeeley.

Jan 28, 2023: McNeeley scores 30 points on 12-for-17 shooting and 4-for-7 3-point shooting in Montverde's 90-70 win over St. Rita (Ill.) at the Montverde Academy Invitational championship game. 

March 1, 2023: McNeeley is named an honorable mention for the Naismith Boys’ High School All-America Teams. Current Indiana freshman Mackenzie Mgbako was named to the third-team All-America. “It is a great accomplishment, and I am very proud to be on the list," McNeeley said. "Now we need to finish the school year and win GEICO.”

March 23, 2023: McNeeley is named 2022-23 NIBC first-team All-Conference. Playing a national schedule, the NIBC is considered one of the top high school conferences in America. Montverde also won the 2022-23 NIBC Championship with an 11-1 conference record and 23-3 overall.

March 30, 2023: Montverde is eliminated in the Geico High School Nationals quarterfinals with a 46-45 loss to Sunrise Christian, ending Montverde's hopes of winning three consecutive GEICO national championships.

April 23-25, 2023: McNeeley takes official visit to Texas.

May 29, 2023: Playing for the Florida Rebels, McNeeley is one of five players named to the session four Nike EYBL All-Circuit team. Across four games in Memphis, McNeeley averaged 25.7 points per game.

June 3, 2023: McNeeley narrows his list of college choices to six: Oklahoma, Kansas, Indiana, Alabama, Texas and Michigan.

June 29, 2023: McNeeley and his Montverde teammates Derik Queen and Curtis Givens III compete in the NBPA Top 100 camp. McNeeley averaged 15.6 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting 88 percent on 36 free throw attempts in the event.

Aug. 30, 2023: McNeeley tells national high school basketball insider Samad Hines, "I plan to commit before the high school season starts," but Hines reported that McNeeley does not have any specific date planned yet on when he would announce his college decision or next level plans. Montverde has not released a schedule for the 2023-24 season, but they have started recent seasons in mid-to-late November.

Sept. 1-3, 2023: McNeeley takes official visit to Kansas. 

Sept. 8-10: McNeeley takes second official visit to Indiana, this time alongside two Montverde teammates, Derik Queen and Curtis Givens III.

Sept. 18, 2023: McNeeley cancels official visit to Texas, and reports indicate he will decide between Indiana and Kansas.

Sept 24, 2023: College basketball recruiting insider Trilly Donovan casts prediction for Liam McNeeley to Indiana on burnerball.com. He is 28-for-29 on all-time predictions.

Sept. 25, 2025: Colby Giacubeno of InsideMDSports places a Crystal Ball prediction for McNeeley to Indiana. Giacubeno is 96-for-96 on all-time picks. College basketball recruiting insider Andrew Slater posts on X, "I have one team I’d bet a car on in this race. This should be over fairly soon." Slater did not reveal who the team was. Basketball analyst Jeff Goodman later posted, "Liam McNeeley tells me that he has yet to set a date for his decision and remains undecided. The Montverde wing is one of the top players in the country and is down to Indiana and Kansas."
