Race Thompson To Participate in Portsmouth Invitational Tournament

Former Indiana forward Race Thompson will compete in the Portsmouth Invitational on Wednesday night.

After six seasons at Indiana, Race Thompson is pursuing a professional basketball career.

Part of that process takes place this week in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in Virginia, where he'll compete in front of professional scouts. Thompson will play for Portsmouth Sports Club against Mike Duman Auto Sales on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. Fans can watch the games at this link for a fee.

This event began in 1953 and features eight teams of eight players playing in a 12-game tournament over four days. Thompson was one of 64 senior college basketball players invited to play in the tournament.

Thompson played 130 games for Indiana, including 91 starts in his final three seasons. His most productive statistical season came in 2021-22 when he averaged 11.1 points and 7.5 rebounds with a 53.6 field goal percentage. Thompson is the first Hoosier to compete in the Portsmouth Invitational since Juwan Morgan in 2019, who has played in the NBA for Utah, Boston and Toronto.

Notable players that have competed in the Portsmouth Invitational include Rick Barry, Earl Monroe, Dave Cowens, Scottie Pippen, Tim Hardaway, Dennis Rodman, Jimmy Butler and more.
