Grace Berger Earns Solid Playing Time at Indiana Fever Preseason Game
CHICAGO — It was a difficult night for the Indiana Fever as it dropped its first preseason game 81-56 to the Chicago Sky. However, former Indiana women's basketball star point guard Grace Berger earned valuable playing time with more than 22 minutes on the floor at Wintrust Arena.
The 6-foot Louisville, Ky. native didn't get the start, but was ranked second in minutes behind veteran guard and Stanford graduate Lexie Hull, who also didn't start. The No. 1 draft pick Aliyah Boston started at center and totaled just under 16 minutes scoring eight points for the Fever.
Veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell led the struggling Fever with 9 points on the night while no player reached double digits in any statistical category.
In her 22 minutes of playing timer, Berger scored four points shooting 50 percent from the field and totaled four rebounds, which tied for second on the team behind forward NaLyssa Smith's five boards. Berger also had two steals but struggled to take care of the ball as she finished with four turnovers.
Up next, the Fever will return home to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday, May 13 to face the Dallas Wings in its second preseason game at 1 p.m. ET. Final roster cuts to 12 players will be made on May 18 as it appears Berger will be a safe bet at making the team given her praise from staff during training camp and her minutes put in on the court.
The first regular season Fever game is Friday, May 19 versus the Connecticut Sun in Indianapolis at 7 p.m. ET.
