How to Watch Indiana Basketball Against Wright State Thursday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana is off to a 2-0 start this year, but wins haven't come easily. The Hoosiers defeated Florida Gulf Coast 69-63 in the season opener, then beat Army 72-64 on Sunday. 

Next up is Wright State, a team that has lost its first two games to Colorado State and Toledo but entered the season as one of the favorites to win the Horizon League. The Raiders return point guard and preseason Horizon League Player of the Year Trey Calvin, who's averaging 27.5 points through two games.

  • Series history: Indiana leads the all-time series 2-0. The first matchup came on on March 19, 1993, when Indiana was the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Under coach Bob Knight, the Hoosiers defeated Wright State 97-54 at the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis. Indiana's all-time leading scorer Calbert Cheaney scored a game-high 29 points on 12-for-17 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Matt Nover added 17 points. The Hoosiers eventually lost to No. 2 seed Kansas in the Elite Eight.

Meet the coaches

  • Scott Nagy, Wright State: Nagy is in his eighth season at Wright State and has a 148-79 overall record and a 96-40 mark in Horizon League play. He led the Raiders to the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and 2022, and won the Horizon League regular season title in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Nagy is a three-time Horizon League Coach of the Year. Prior to Wright State, he coached South Dakota State from 1995-2016, making eight Division II NCAA Tournament appearances in a nine-year span. When South Dakota State moved to Division I, Nagy made the NCAA Tournament three times, along with three Summit League regular season and tournament titles. 
  • Mike Woodson, Indiana: Woodson is in his third season at Indiana with a 46-26 overall record and a 21-19 mark in regular season Big Ten play. Woodson has NBA head coaching experience with the Atlanta Hawks from 2004-10 and the New York Knicks from 2012-14. Woodson played at Indiana University from 1976-80, and was named the Big Ten's Most Valuable Player as a senior under coach Bob Knight. He was the 12th overall pick in the 1980 NBA Draft, and played for various teams from 1980-91, averaging 14 points over 786 games.
