Indiana Signee Liam McNeeley Named 2024 McDonald's All-American
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana commit Liam McNeeley was one of 24 high school basketball players across the nation to be named to the 2024 McDonald's All-American game roster Tuesday afternoon.
Two of McNeeley's teammates at Montverde Academy in Florida, Derik Queen and Cooper Flagg, a Duke commit, also made the roster. The trio will play for the East team, whose head coach is Sharman White from Pace Academy in Georgia. The game is scheduled for April 2 at the Toyota Center in Houston.
Around the Big Ten, Rutgers currently leads the conference with two McDonald's All-Americans, Airious Bailey and Dylan Harper, the class of 2024's No. 2 and No. 3 players, respectively. Washington and USC are set to join the Big Ten for the 2024-25 season, and Washington landed a commitment from Vazoumana Diallo. USC has a McDonald's All-American in Trent Perry.
Alabama, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina and Rutgers are tied for the most McDonald's All-Americans with two. Indiana could tie those schools if it is able to pick up a commitment from Queen, who's down to a top-four list of Indiana, Maryland, Houston and Kansas.
Other uncommitted McDonald's All-Americans include Bryson Tucker and Karter Knox. Tucker is considering Michigan State, Kansas and the NBA's G-League Ignite team. Knox is considering Kentucky, Louisville, South Florida and the NBA's G-League Ignite team.
Here's the full roster.
With McNeeley making the roster, Indiana now has a McDonald's All-American in three consecutive classes under coach Mike Woodson. Indiana center Kel'el Ware played in the 2022 game when he was committed to Oregon, and current Indiana freshman wing Mackenzie Mgbako played in last year's game. This trio marks Indiana's longest streak of McDonald's All-Americans since former coach Tom Crean's run from 2011-15 with Cody Zeller, Yogi Ferrell, Noah Vonleh, James Blackmon Jr. and Thomas Bryant.
McNeeley is ranked No. 11 in the nation, one spot behind his teammate, Queen, on the ESPN Top 100 rankings. McNeeley, a 6-foot-7 small forward, was recently named MVP of No. 1 Montverde's 76-71 win over No. 7 Prolific Prep at the Hoop Hall Classic, a game that featured 11 top-100 players, per the 247Sports rankings. He scored a game-high 22 points on 4-for-5 3-point shooting, along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Woodson is excited to have him in Bloomington next season.
"He's a winner," Woodson said. "He does all the necessary things on and off the floor, which you like. But I just like the fact that he competes, he likes to compete. He can shoot the ball, he can pass the ball, he handles the basketball. There's a lot of good, quality things he does on the floor, and we're fortunate enough to get him."
"I just think it's going to be a major plus for our program because he really can shoot the basketball, and we don't really have that right now. So it's something missing that we needed, and we've got to continue to go out and find more guys that can make shots."
