Indiana's Jackson-Davis, Hood-Schifino Receive Weekly Big Ten Awards
After wins over Minnesota and Ohio State this week, a pair of Hoosiers earned conference-wide awards.
On Monday, Indiana senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis was named co-Big Ten Player of the Week for the second week in a row. He averaged 21.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 4.0 blocks during a 2-0 week, extending Indiana's win streak to five games.
Jackson-Davis logged 25 points, 21 rebounds, and six blocked shots against Minnesota, becoming the first Hoosier since D.J. White on Jan. 8, 2008 to score 20 points and 20 rebounds. He's also the first high-major player to post a 25-20-5 game since UConn’s Hasheem Thabeet on Feb. 14, 2009. Against Ohio State, Jackson-Davis added 18 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Jackson-Davis shares this award with Purdue center Zach Edey, who scored a career-high 38 points on Sunday against Michigan State. Edey has won Big Ten Player of the Week five times, and he's averaging 22.1 points 13.0 rebounds and 2.2 blocks this season. The two will match up for the first time this season on Saturday at Assembly Hall.
Indiana freshman point guard Jalen Hood-Schifino was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after a huge performance against Ohio State. Playing through an illness, Hood-Schifino made six 3-pointers in the first half and finished the game with 24 points on 8-for-12 shooting with three assists and two steals. He also earned this award on Jan. 9
