Jackson-Davis, Edey Share Big Ten Player of the Week Honors After Head-to-Head Battle

Indiana's Trayce Jackson-Davis and Purdue's Zach Edey put on a show Saturday night at Assembly Hall during the Hoosiers' 79-74 victory. Jackson-Davis scored 25 points and Edey scored 33 to earn co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors.

Indiana senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis and Purdue junior center Zach Edey were named co-Big Ten Players of the Week on Monday. It's the second consecutive week the two have shared this award.

Assembly Hall hosted the heavyweight battle between Jackson-Davis and Edey on Saturday, and the matchup lived up to the hype. Edey found himself in a bit of foul in the first half, and Indiana jumped out to a 50-35 lead at halftime. But the 7-foot-4 Purdue center led a valiant comeback in the second half, finishing with 33 points on 15-for-19 shooting with 18 rebounds and three blocks.

It was Jackson-Davis' team that ultimately came out on top, claiming a 79-74 win to take down the No. 1 Boilermakers. Jackson-Davis led the Hoosiers with 25 points on 9-for-19 shooting with seven rebounds and five blocks.

Purdue defeated Penn State 80-60 earlier in the week, and Edey scored 18 points and 13 rebounds. Indiana's previous five-game win streak was snapped on Wednesday in a 66-55 loss at Maryland when Jackson-Davis scored 18 points and 20 rebounds.

This week marks the third consecutive Big Ten Player of the Week award for Jackson-Davis, and it's the sixth time Edey has received the honor. Jackson-Davis is now averaging 19.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 3.2 blocks with a 57.6 field goal percentage on the season. Leading Purdue to a 22-2 record and first place in the Big Ten, Edey is averaging 22.4 points, 13.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks with a 62.7 field goal percentage.

Illinois guard Jayden Epps was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the first time on Monday. Epps scored 12 points on 4-for-10 shooting with three rebounds and three assists during Illinois' 72-56 win over Nebraska on Tuesday. He added 16 points on 7-for-14 shooting with five assists and two rebounds as Illinois suffered an 81-79 loss at Iowa on Saturday. Epps is now averaging 10.1 points in his freshman season.
