Indiana to Face Michigan State in Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Friday morning, top seeded Indiana will face No. 9 Michigan State in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Spartans defeated Nebraska in the second round 67-64 on Thursday morning to advance. Michigan State is only one of two teams to defeat Indiana this season as the Hoosiers fell 83-78 in East Lansing on Dec. 29.
Indiana holds a 1-2 tournament record versus the Spartans and last saw them in 2021 when the No. 7 seed beat No. 2 Indiana 69-61. Last year, the Hoosiers bounced back and were runner up to Iowa in the championship.
The Spartans are led by graduate student guard Kamaria McDaniel, who's averaging 13.6 points per contest. Thursday versus the Huskers, she was one of three Spartans to reach double figures with 12 while sophomore guard DeeDee Hagemann led with 18.
Indiana has had a great week too as seven Hoosiers including head coach Teri Moren earned Big Ten honors. Senior forward Mackenzie Holmes is the conference's Defensive Player of the Year and also leads the team with 22.5 points and 7.4 boards per game.
The Hoosiers' defense is ranked at the top of the conference as they limit opponents to 60.9 points per game. Their offense is ranked second behind reigning Big Ten Tournament champs Iowa as the Hoosiers score 81.3 points per contest.
Anything can happen in the Big Ten as the Hoosiers will face a full court press type of team in Michigan State that's now on a three-game winning streak.
