The game has a number of ties to the Indiana program. Coach Mike Woodson was the Atlanta Hawks' head coach from 2004-10, making three playoff appearances in six seasons.

It's also a homecoming for current Indiana sophomore Kaleb Banks and incoming freshman Jakai Newton. Banks attended Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, Ga., a south suburb of Atlanta, and Newton, coincidentally, attended Newton High School in Covington, Ga., an east suburb of Atlanta.

"I'm very, very excited about that game," Banks said in July. "I can't wait to go back there and play. I haven't played back in Atlanta in a while. I know that's kind of new for Indiana to go to Atlanta and play, so I understand that's going to be a big moment for me and my family. I'll have a lot of my family there, as well."

Both Atlanta-native Hoosiers were featured in promotional posts for the game.

Auburn is entering its 10th season under coach Bruce Pearl, who has coached the Tigers to a 187-111 overall record and a 84-78 mark in SEC play. Auburn has reached the NCAA Tournament four times under Pearl, including two SEC regular season titles, one SEC Tournament title and a Final Four appearance during the 2019-20 season.
