Indiana Women's Basketball: Kiandra Browne Injury Update
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana women's basketball coach Teri Moren gave an injury update on junior forward Kiandra Browne, who went down with a hip injury in the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament quarterfinals versus Michigan State on March 3.
In Browne's first minute of play during the second quarter, she appeared to be hip checked by Spartans senior forward Taiyier Parks. This led to Browne falling to the floor crying as she was wheeled off the court in a wheel chair and did not play the rest of the weekend.
After the Hoosiers' 94-85 win over Michigan State, Moren said Browne was on her way to get X-rays.
"She's been to the doctor," Moren said on Selection Sunday.
"We feel like we're just dealing with sore muscle, so we don't think it's anything of significance. That doesn't mean that...probably you'll see her this weekend in terms of playing. I think she will be out another maybe couple of weeks, and then she'll be reevaluated."
Moren said Browne has been in practice watching but not able to participate. The Montreal, Quebec, Canada native has had several bouts with injuries over the years including hip surgeries, which explains her pain, and a right thumb injury that kept her out the majority of this season.
"First of all, we play in a very physical league," Moren said. "It's as much mental as it is physical for us, just because of how we prep, and we put so much on these guys."
Although she's not yet cleared to play for the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Bloomington, she'll mentally serve just as important of a role cheering on the one-seeded Hoosiers from the bench.
"I think the the news that we got is probably the best case scenario for the shot that she took to that hip," Moren said.
