BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana women's basketball recruit Lenee Beaumont is starting to pick up the same accolades as Hoosiers' all-time leading scorer Tyra Buss.

Last week, Lisle, Ill. native guard Beaumont was named Illinois Ms. Basketball and earlier in the year picked up the Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year honor just like former guard Buss did nearly a decade ago in 2014.

Buss out of Mount Carmel High School was actually Illinois Ms. Basketball twice from 2013-14 as the sole winner to play at Indiana until Beaumont came along.

Buss left the Hoosiers with a program-high 2,364 points and as an All-American among a slate of other Big Ten honors. She averaged 20.6 points per game in her 2017-18 senior season shooting 42.4 percent from the field.

As for Beaumont at Benet Academy, her average 19.3 points and 7.6 rebounds her senior season led the Redwings to the title game where they fell just short to O-Fallon in double-overtime.

Yes, high school and collegiate levels are very different, but Beaumont's award slate and six-foot frame will certainly translate well into a program Buss helped pave along with head coach Teri Moren and company.

This season, the Hoosiers will need a new point guard following the graduation of six-foot guard Grace Berger. There's several options such as upcoming senior Chloe Moore-McNeil, who replaced Berger earlier in the season when she went down with a right knee injury.

Upcoming sophomore Lexus Bargesser, picking up a player up in the transfer portal or Beaumont, who's one of two freshmen joining the Hoosiers, are also viable options.
