Indiana Women's Basketball Senior Guard Sydney Parrish Out Indefinitely With Foot Injury
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren said Friday that starting senior guard Sydney Parrish is out indefinitely with a foot injury.
Her status is game-to-game.
Parrish did not play in Sunday's win at Purde and was wearing a walking boot and using crutches. Moren had said afterward that Parrish injured her foot in practice two days before that game.
“She’s in great hands,” Moren said. “Trying to get her back as quickly, but safely as we can.”
Parrish was averaging 16 points in the team’s last five games and was becoming more consistent from three-point range. She made 17 three-pointers in that five-game stretch. Without her at Purdue, Indiana (16-2, 7-1) still made a season-high 15 threes and in a comeback win. Sophomore guard Lexus Bargesser made her first career-start in place of Parrish and played a career-high 34 minutes. She had three assists but did not score.
“It’s an adjustment,” Moren said. “But it’s an adjustment we’ve had to go through before a year ago when we didn’t have Grace [Berger]. We always look at it in a positive way because some of those other kids are going to get great experience and time … but Syd was playing great … she’s always provided us with a great dose of energy and hustle and all of that. So, we do miss that. But we felt like obviously, Lexi came in, and provided great minutes for us.”
Moren said she was pleased with how the team responded at Purdue with Parrish out and that other starters will have to create scoring opportunities to make up for her absence. The four other regular starters — Mackenzie Holmes, Sara Scalia, Chloe Moore-McNeil, and Yarden Garzon — each scored at least 15 points. And Garzon played her best game in about a month, tying her season-high five threes.
No. 14 Indiana plays Northwestern at 2 p.m. ET Sunday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
