Jalen Hood-Schifino Struggles in Lakers' 31-Point Loss to Grizzlies in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nev. — There are good nights and bad nights, and Friday was a very bad night for rookie Jalen Hood-Schifino and the Los Angeles Lakers.
They got waxed big-time during their fourth summer league game in Las Vegas, losing 100-69 to the Memphis Grizzlies. Hood-Schifino, the 17th overall pick by the Lakers out of Indiana, was just 3-for-17 from the field and 2-for-9 from three, and finished with eight points — all in the first half — and five rebounds in 27 minutes of action. It was the worst loss of the summer for the Lakers, and their second straight.
The Lakers seemed out of synch from the beginning, and it didn't help playing without Max Christie for the first time. The second-year guard out of Michigan State has been their best player all season, but he was shut down for Friday night's game with a right hip strain.
The Lakers shot just 36 percent from the field and 21 percent from three. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, made 18 threes in the blowout win.
They're now 2-2 in Las Vegas and will play their final game on Sunday when they take on the Los Angeles Clippers at 10 p.m. ET at the Thomas & Mack Center. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
There are two full days left of the Las Vegas Summer League, with full slates on Saturday and Sunday. Four teams advanced to the championship round — Cleveland, Houston, Utah and Brooklyn — and they will play semifinal games on Sunday, with the two winners playing for the title on Monday night.
