LIVE BLOG: Follow Indiana's Basketball Game Against North Alabama
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It's a quick turnaround for coach Mike Woodson and the Indiana Hoosiers, hosting North Alabama Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
Indiana is coming off a 69-68 win over Morehead State on Tuesday, which required a 15-point comeback in the final 10 minutes of the game. On the other side, North Alabama lost 70-67 at Tennessee Tech on Saturday and stands at 6-6 on the season.
Welcome to our live blog, where we'll share updates, highlights and thoughts on tonight's game live from press row at Assembly Hall.
10:25 p.m. – Final: Indiana 83, North Alabama 66. Hoosiers improve to 9-3 on the season thanks to a 12-for-24 night from three.
10:04 p.m. – Indiana's lead is all the way up to 73-48 at the under-8 timeout. Along with Reneau's career-high scoring night, Trey Galloway has a career-high nine assists. Sure it's against North Alabama, but it's a good sign to see Indiana be able to blow a team out. It hadn't done so all year.
10:01 p.m. – Malik Reneau is up to a career-high 22 points, surpassing his previous mark of 18, which came against UConn at Madison Square Garden. He's gotten everything he's wanted inside, and even made a trio of threes tonight.
9:52 p.m. – Cupps joins the 3-point party, making one from the left wing. Indiana's lead is up to 19 points, and the Hoosiers are now 8-for-17 from three.
9:41 p.m. – Galloway knocks down a three, and Indiana is now 7-for-16 from three. That's a season-high for the Hoosiers. Indiana's lead is up to 52-37.
9:38 p.m. – Mgbako starts the second half with a steal, then Galloway turns it over on the other end. Looked like he may have been fouled, but definitely forced it.
9:21 p.m. – Anthony Leal drains a three from the right wing, and the Assembly Hall crowd loves it. That's Leal's first field goal since Feb. 24, 2022. Reneau knocks down another three, his third of the game, just before the halftime buzzer. IU leads 43-34 at half.
9:19 p.m. – UNA gets a timeout with 1:41 left in the half, trailing 36-28. The Lions have been cold from outside tonight, shooting just 2-for-11.
9:15 p.m. – Anthony Leal checking in for the first time since Dec. 9 against Auburn.
9:12 p.m. – Galloway pushes Indiana's lead back to 10 points with a three from the right wing. Ware had a good look from three on the following possession, but missed. IU leads 34-24 with four minutes left in the half.
9:10 p.m. – Galloway fouled on a hard drive to the basket, then goes 1-for-2 at the line. He entered the game shooting just 51.6% on free throws.
9:03 p.m. – Indiana leads UNA 28-17 at the under-8 timeout. Cupps will check back in the game with two fouls. Galloway needs a break. He's played the whole game. Indiana just doesn't have many options at guard with Xavier Johnson out.
9:00 p.m. – Walker continuing to play well for the Hoosiers, this time with a strong drive to the basket. Sparks cleared the lane with a hard screen after snatching the offensive rebound. Walker goes 2-for-2 at the line on the next possession, giving Indiana a 28-15 lead with 9:20 left in the half.
8:58 p.m. – Walker with a nice pass to a back-cutting Kaleb Banks, who finished the dunk through a foul. He missed the free throw, though. IU leads 24-11.
8:55 p.m. – UNA starting guard Will Soucie just picked up his third foul of the game already. He'll have to sit for a while. Gunn responds with a mid-range jumper to give IU a 20-8 lead.
8:50 p.m. – Reneau had to force a three at the end of the shot clock from a few steps beyond the arc against good defense, but it went in. Pretty impressive shot from the sophomore forward. He's got 11 points already, and IU leads 18-8.
8:47 p.m. – Gunn first off the bench for IU, replacing Cupps. UNA pressed Indiana after the timeout, but the Hoosiers broke it easily, leading to an alley-oop from Gunn to Ware.
8:44 p.m. – Johnson makes a spinning layup through a foul from Gabe Cupps. That's his second foul. With Xavier Johnson out, it could be a game to play CJ Gunn and Anthony Leal more minutes.
8:42 p.m. – Cupps' first attempt of the game is good from the midrange, coming off a screen from Reneau. He doesn't look for his shot often, but is certainly a capable shooter. Reneau knocks down a three on the following possession, and it's a 10-2 lead for Indiana.
8:41 p.m. – KJ Johnson in the game now for UNA. He's their leading scorer at 13.9 points per game. UNA plays about 11 men per game.
8:39 p.m. – Cupps called for a foul on the drive, but redeems himself with a poke-away steal on the following possession. UNA scoreless through three minutes.
8:37 p.m. – UNA brought a double-team to Ware, and he kicked it out to a wide-open Mackenzie Mgbako, who knocked down the three. IU off to a good start, leading 5-0 through two minutes.
8:35 p.m. – North Alabama wins the tip and we're under way from Assembly Hall. Lions turn it over on the first possession, and Malik Reneau answers with an easy layup.
8:23 p.m. – Starting lineup remains the same for Indiana: Gabe Cupps, Trey Galloway, Mackenzie Mgbako, Malik Reneau and Kel'el Ware. For North Alabama, it's Jacari Lane, Will Soucie, Detalian Brown, Tim Smith Jr. and Damian Forrest. North Alabama is bringing leading scorer KJ Johnson off the bench again.
7:45 p.m. – Indiana point guard Xavier Johnson remains out tonight, though he is no longer wearing a walking boot. Freshman Gabe Cupps will start his sixth consecutive game in Johnson's absence. Malik Reneau was listed questionable heading into the game, but he was in uniform for pregame warmups. It looks like he's good to go.
