Indiana's Sara Scalia Gives Update on Injury Suffered in Greece
Despite beating the Patras All Stars 101-36 in Greece last Saturday, the Indiana women's basketball team had a concern following the dominant win — Sara Scalia.
The star shooting guard from Minnesota played a spectacular game, finishing with 21 points and five made threes, but she had to leave the fame following an apparent left knee injury.
Late in the blowout win, Scalia drove to the hoop for a layup, and as she landed, her left knee buckled. She got back up and walked over to the opposite corner, even attempting an open three just seconds after her injury. However, as soon as the ball went out of bounds, Scalia immediately called for a substitute, and was looked at on the bench by Indiana trainers.
Fortunately, Scalia Tweeted on Friday that she received "good news," and that she appreciates all the support IU fans had given her over the past week.
Additionally, a source told HoosiersNow.com that, "Sara is going to be okay." While the the team never released specifics on what Scalia's injury might have been, it appears it is nothing major.
After three seasons as a star scorer for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Scalia transferred to IU for the 2022-23 season and contributed to one of the best teams in Indiana women's basketball history. She started 14 of 32 games, averaged 9.5 points per game and finished the season with 53 made threes, the third most on the team behind Yarden Garzon and Sydney Parrish.
