Maryland's Taulia Tagovailoa Headlines Big Ten's Players of the Week for Week 13
The college football regular season is in the books. All 14 Big Ten teams were in action over the weekend, putting everything on the line during Rivalry Week.
Several players had special performances to close the year, but the Big Ten revealed its four honorees for the final Player of the Week awards.
Offensive: Taulia Tagovailoa, QB, Maryland
It was hard to deny Tagovailoa of the top offensive honor this week. The senior quarterback led Maryland to a 42-24 win over Rutgers by throwing for 361 yards and three touchdowns. It was the 15th 300-yard passing performance of his career in College Park.
Tagovailoa also made Big Ten history with the win. He became the conference's all-time passing yards leader, passing Purdue's Curtis Painter for the top spot in the record book.
Defensive: Aaron Casey, LB, Indiana
Casey was relentless in Indiana's season finale against Purdue on Saturday. Although the Hoosiers didn't get the victory, the senior linebacker racked up 11 tackles, including nine solo stops.
Additionally, Casey recorded four tackles for loss and a sack for the Hoosiers in the 35-31 loss to the Boilermakers. The linebacker concluded the year with 109 total stops.
Special Teams: James Turner, K, Michigan
Success on special teams proved vital for Michigan in a 30-24 victory over Ohio State. Turner was perfect for the day, making all three of his field goal attempts and all three extra point tries, as well.
Turner drilled field goals from 37, 38 and 50 yards out. He is the first Michigan player to earn the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week award since Jake Moody last season.
Freshman: Dillon Thieneman, DB, Purdue
Thieneman made several big plays in Purdue's win over Indiana in the Old Oaken Bucket Game. The freshman recorded two interceptions and a team-high eight tackles in the victory.
The defensive back also set a new program record for interceptions by a freshman in a single season (six) and earned five Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Thieneman ended the year with 74 tackles.
