Zach Edey Passes Rick Mount to Become Purdue's All-Time Scoring Leader
There's a new all-time scoring leader at Purdue. On Saturday, Zach Edey overtook Rick Mount for the top spot in the Boilermaker history books.
Edey entered Saturday's Big Ten Tournament game against Wisconsin needing just 13 point to surpass Mount as the program's all-time leading scorer. The 7-foot-4 center is now Purdue's all-time leader in points and rebounds.
Mount, one of the greatest scorers in Purdue history, set the mark at 2,323 points while playing in West Lafayette from 1967-70. Edey broke the record in the second half of Saturday's Big Ten Tournament semifinal game against Wisconsin.
Edey is averaging 24.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 2.0 assists for the Boilermakers this season. He earned back-to-back Big Ten Player of the Year honors and is likely to become the first college basketball player to receive National Player of the Year accolades in consecutive seasons for the first time since Ralph Sampson (Virginia, 1981-83).
Purdue has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success because of Edey's presence on the floor. The Boilermakers have won back-to-back Big Ten regular season titles and are considered a Final Four contender.
This season, the Boilermakers finished the regular season with a 28-3 record, including a 17-3 mark in Big Ten play. Purdue was undefeated at home and will likely be the No. 1 overall seed in the Big Ten Tournament.
Edey has been one of the most dominant players in the history of Purdue basketball. Passing Mount as the all-time scorer in program history just solidifies his status in Boilermaker lore.
