CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Indiana and Illinois haven't consecutive games this season, but that'll change for one team on Saturday, when Indiana travels to Champaign.

The Hoosiers are coming off a 20-14 home win over Wisconsin, while the Illini pulled off a last-minute touchdown drive to win 27-26 at Minnesota. Similarly, Indiana needs to win its final three games to become bowl eligible, and Illinois must take two out of three against Indiana, Iowa and Northwestern.

  • Who: Indiana Hoosiers (3-6, 1-5 in Big Ten) vs. Illinois Fighting Illini (4-5, 2-4 in Big Ten)
  • When: Noon ET on Saturday, Nov. 11
  • Where: Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Ill.

  • Point spread: Illinois is a 6.5-point favorite, and the over/under is 43.5 points, according to the SI Sportsbook on Thursday.
  • Season breakdown: Indiana has wins over Wisconsin, Akron and Indiana State, along with losses to Ohio State, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Rutgers and Penn State. Illinois has wins over Toledo, Florida Atlantic, Maryland and Minnesota, along with losses to Kansas, Penn State, Purdue, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
  • Last season's records: Indiana went 4-8 overall and 2-7 in Big Ten play, with wins over Illinois, Idaho, Western Kentucky and Michigan State. Illinois went 8-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play. The Illini lost 19-10 to Mississippi State in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
  • Series history: Illinois leads the all-time series 45-26-2. Indiana has won the last four matchups, though, with Illinois' last win coming in 2011. Since 2000, the series is tied 8-8. The Illini dominated the matchup in from 1980-99, going 12-4 in this time.
  • Last meeting: Indiana defeated Illinois 23-20 during the 2022 season opener in Bloomington. Indiana quarterback Connor Bazelak led a game-winning touchdown drive in the closing seconds, capped off by a one-yard score by running back Shaun Shivers. Bazelak finished the game with 330 passing yards, one touchdown an an interception. Cam Camper set an Indiana record for receiving yards in a debut with 156.
  • Weather: According to weather.com, it's going to be 46 degrees and mostly sunny with a 0 percent chance of rain, and winds from the southeast at six miles per hour at 11 a.m. CT in Champaign, Ill. on Saturday.

Meet the Coaches

  • Bret Bielema, Illinois: Bielema is in his third year at Illinois. He has a 17-17 overall record and an 11-13 mark in Big Ten play. Last year, Bielema took the Illini to their first bowl game since 2019, but ultimately lost 19-10 to Mississippi State. He most recently spent three seasons in the NFL on the New York Giants' and New England Patriots' coaching staffs. Bielema coached the Arkansas Razorbacks to a 29-34 record in five seasons from 2013 to 2017, and he won three Big Ten championships as the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers from 2006 to 2012, posting a 68-24 record overall.
  • Tom Allen, Indiana: Allen has a 33-46 overall record and a 18-40 mark in Big Ten play in his seventh full season as Indiana's head coach. He took over for Kevin Wilson as interim head coach for the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl, which ended with a 26-24 loss to Utah. Allen was named 2020 American Football Coaches Association National Coach of the Year, when he led the Hoosiers to a 6-2 record and reached as high as No. 7 in the AP top-25 poll, the school's highest ranking since 1967. Along with Bill Mallory, Allen is one of two Indiana head coaches to coach in multiple bowl games. Allen is a native of New Castle, Ind., and his coaching career includes stops at Temple Heights High School, Armwood High School, Marion High School, Ben Davis High School, Wabash College, Lambuth University, Drake, Arkansas State, Ole Miss, South Florida and Indiana.
