Safety Jamison Kelly No Longer with Indiana Football Program

Indiana safety Jamison Kelly is no longer a member of the Indiana football program, coach Tom Allen told media on Thursday during his press conference. Kelly came to Indiana as a junior college transfer during the 2022 offseason.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana football coach Tom Allen began his Thursday press conference with a roster update, revealing that defensive back Jamison Kelly is no longer with the program.

Kelly joined the Hoosiers in Dec. 2022, when Allen and Co. signed the junior college (JUCO) transfer safety out of Jones College. Kelly had verbally committed to Jacksonville State as the FBS team he would transfer to following a season at the JUCO level, but later changed his mind and instead came to IU.

Coming out of the JUCO school in Columbia, Mo., Kelly was rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports.

Prior to Jones College, Kelly spent two seasons at Louisiana Tech, where he recorded 11 tackles in 17 games played. Allen did not give a reason as to why Kelly is no longer on the roster during his Thursday press conference.

In four games for the 2023 Indiana Hoosiers, Kelly had just one tackle and played only 19 snaps, according to Pro Football Focus (PFF). All of Kelly's 19 snaps took place on kick and punt return coverage, according to PFF.

If the 6-foot-1, 195-pound defensive back finds another school to play for in 2024, it would be his fourth college football team in five seasons.

Indiana's defense has primarily rotated between the trio of Louis Moore, Josh Sanguinetti and Phillip Dunnam at the safety positions so far this season. Likewise, Noah Pierre often takes on safety-like responsibilities while playing at the versatile husky position in the Hoosiers' defense. Jordan Grier also saw more snaps at the safety position than Kelly did during his brief time in Bloomington.
