Offensive Lineman Trey Wedig Transfers From Wisconsin To Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana coach Curt Cignetti officially landed his third transfer of the offseason Saturday night.
Offensive lineman Trey Wedig announced his decision to transfer to Indiana after spending the last four seasons at Wisconsin. With one year of eligibility remaining, Wedig reunites with Indiana offensive line coach Bob Bostad, who most recently coached Wisconsin offensive linemen in 2022.
Along with Wedig, Indiana's transfer class includes Ohio quarterback Kurtis Rourke and Wake Forest running back Justice Ellison.
Wedig stands at 6-foot-7 and 318 pounds and has experience playing both guard and tackle.
He committed to Wisconsin in the class of out of Kettle Moraine High School in Wales, Wisc. as one of the nation's top offensive line prospects. Wedig was ranked No. 83 in the nation, No. 7 among offensive tackles and No. 1 in Wisconsin. Out of high school, he fielded offers from Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and others.
After redshirting the 2020 season at Wisconsin, Wedig appeared in all 12 games in 2021, primarily on special teams but also two games at right guard.
He played in 10 games during the 2022 season, making five starts at right tackle, two at right guard and two at left guard. Across 566 snaps, he received a 73.7 offense grade by Pro Football Focus, which ranked third among Wisconsin offensive linemen with significant playing time.
As a redshirt junior in 2023, however, Wedig's snap count decreased to 252. He split time at right guard and left guard, but played just 11 snaps in the final five weeks.
Offensive line was among the positions of need for Indiana heading into the 2024 season. The Hoosiers lost left guard Mike Katic to the NFL Draft, while right tackle Kahlil Benson and right guard Matthew Bedford both transferred to Colorado. Center Zach Carpenter entered the transfer portal and is currently undecided, and left tackle Carter Smith recently announced his decision to withdraw from the transfer portal and return to Indiana.
