Old Dominion Safety Shawn Asbury II Transfers to Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana reinforced its secondary Thursday night with the commitment of Old Dominion transfer Shawn Asbury II.
Asbury is a 5-foot-9 safety who played two seasons at Old Dominion and one at Boston College. He received an 82.6 defensive grade by Pro Football Focus, which ranked 19th in the nation among safeties. Asbury has two years of remaining eligibility.
Asbury played in 12 of Old Dominion's 13 games and logged 93 total tackles, which ranked fourth on the team. He also had six tackles for loss, four pass breakups and an interception. Asbury made seven tackles in Old Dominion's overtime loss to Western Kentucky in the Bahamas Bowl. He received an All-Sun Belt honorable mention.
As a sophomore in 2022, he played in 11 games and made 32 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups, one interception and a fumble recovery.
He originally committed to Boston College as a three-star recruit out of Stafford, Va. in the class of 2021.
Asbury's addition should help Indiana replace starting safeties Louis Moore, who's transferring to Ole Miss, and Phillip Dunnam, who's currently in the transfer portal. New Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti hired Ola Adams to coach the Hoosiers' safeties and defensive backs in 2024.
