How to Watch Indiana Softball in NCAA Tournament Regional Versus No. 3 Louisville
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — For the first time since 2011, Indiana softball is headed to the NCAA Tournament. Beginning Friday, the No. 2-seed Hoosiers will take on No. 3 Louisville at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. The game is slated for 3 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
Indiana faced the Cards, who last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2019, earlier this season as Louisville was shut down 10-5 at Andy Mohr Field on April 11. The Hoosiers came out hot scoring three runs in the first inning followed by three more in the second. By the seventh inning, Indiana secured the win.
The Cardinals have similar characteristics to the Hoosiers as they too have a Freshman of the Year in ACC catcher Sarah Gordon. Hoosier second baseman Taryn Kern won Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year. She's also tied with Louisville graduate student pitcher Taylor Roby for second most home runs in the nation with 22.
Sophomore outfielder Korbe Otis leads the Cards with a .406 batting average while Kern leads the Hoosiers with a .411 average. Note that freshman outfielder Elle Smith holds a .667 average in three at-bats for the Hoosiers.
Louisville freshman Alyssa Zabala leads the pitching staff with 14 wins and 93 strikeouts in 119 innings. Roby has a team-high 2.56 ERA with 57 strikeouts in 112 innings. Indiana sophomore Brianna Copeland is 21-2 on the mound this season and holds a 2.85 ERA pitching 142.1 innings totaling 127 strikeouts.
Last time out, Louisville fell to Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals 10-8 as Indiana fell just short of the Big Ten championship title losing to Northwestern 2-1.
